Using the Sleep Timer
Left alone, the fire keeps burning. If you fall asleep or walk away, the screen and the sound stay on all night. The sleep timer is there for exactly that: when the time you set is up, the fire goes out by itself.
Setting it
- Press the hourglass-shaped Sleep timer button under the picture.
- Choose 15, 30 or 60 minutes. The timer starts as soon as you choose.
- For any other length, choose Custom and enter the number of minutes, from 1 to 600 (10 hours).
While the timer is running, the time left is shown next to the timer button. To cancel, press Off.
It fades, it does not cut
Nothing stops abruptly when the time is up. Over the final stretch (up to one minute) the sound and the firelight slowly die down together and then go out, much like a fire burning down to nothing. With a timer of four minutes or more the fade takes the last minute; with a shorter one it takes the last quarter of the time.
Once the fire is out the screen goes dark, the sound stops, and the keep-awake feature is released so your device can sleep as usual. Press Light it again and everything starts up just as it was.
When it is useful
At bedtime
If you leave it running beside the bed, set it to 30 or 60 minutes. Lowering the screen brightness as well keeps it from dazzling you in a dark room.
To limit a break
A short break by the fire can easily turn into a long one. Set 10 or 15 minutes and the fire going out becomes a natural signal. It does not ring like an alarm, so it does not jolt you.
When you leave the room
If you are going out or moving on to something else, the timer keeps the screen from wasting electricity and battery.
Good to know
- The timer is cleared when you reload or close the page. It does not resume when you open the page again.
- A custom length is remembered, so the same number is filled in the next time you choose Custom.
- The timer follows the real clock, so it ends on time even while you are looking at another tab.
